Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on Tuesday said that the marginal increase in tatkal charges, in the reservation charges and in the cancellation charges will help to make the system smooth. The government announced a fuel surcharge of just under 5 percent on freight traffic in the railway budget, but ducked the opportunity of a further round of passenger fare hikes as it gears up for a national election due next year. Bansal proposed to link freight rates with diesel prices, while presenting the budget today he reiterated that diesel price hike added Rupees 3,300 crore to fuel bill of the Railways.(Ani)
